Boy who pretended finger was gun suspended from Ohio school
It’s the hand shape that got Nathan Entingh suspended from school. Making his hand look like a gun has cost him three days in class. His dad Paul says it’s crazy.
“Why his punishment was this excessive.”
Ten-year-old Nathan is now learning at home until he’s allowed to go back. The principal at Devonshire Alternative Elementary has warned students before about making pretend guns and told parents it would end in a punishment. But Paul says it doesn’t make sense.
“I’ve known these kids around in school nowadays, they get in fights and they are not suspended that long. But for him to make his fingers into a gun and get suspended for three days, I just, I don’t understand it.”
A school district spokesman said Entingh “put his finger to the side of another student’s head and pretended to shoot.” He added, “The kids were told, ‘If you don’t stop doing this type of stuff, there will be consequences.’”
The strong stance looks set to continue. If Nathan does this again at school, there will be another punishment, but this one will be more severe.
In a country where gun control is being widely and fiercely debated, this case is likely to feature heavily.
