Skydiver vs plane: Florida collision captured in dramatic pictures
It could have been a textbook landing, if not for the approaching Cessna plane. Inches from the ground, this skydiver remains in the air for a little longer than planned, jerked around after the plane became entangled in the strings of John Frost’s parachute. As the plane spectacularly crashes on its nose, the skydiver’s last moments in the air are captured. All this happened in a matter of seconds in Polk County, but frozen in time by photographer Tim Telford.
The 87-year-old pilot was at the controls and doing takeoff and landing manoeuvres at South Lakeland Airport. On his third landing pass, this happened.
Both men were transported by ambulance to the local medical centre. The photographer later called it a miracle that neither was seriously injured.
Ironically, Saturday’s accident happened on the US Parachute Association’s Skydiving Safety Day. Safety bosses are now investigating.
Difficult words: jerk (pull something suddenly and quickly), entangle (make something become twisted in something like a rope), spectacularly (very impressively), county (part of a state).
