Bright object spotted streaking over Melbourne sky
A BRIGHT object has been spotted streaking through the sky above Australia’s southern and eastern state.
Social media lit up when the unusual spectacle was seen at around 10pm AEST last night.
The object – described by witnesses as like a flame – was reported to be flying rapidly.
Charmaine Harris from Thornbury said it lasted more than a minute.
“It looked like a big ball with a long, shiny tail.”

Peter Cordeux from Hastings said it was travelling from the south to the north, before disappearing into the horizon.
“It was really unusual,” Mr Cordeux said.
“It was going in a very straight line and then turned to the left towards Melbourne.”
A Bureau of Meterology spokemsan has reportedly said the bright light was probably the result of a meteor or possibly even spacejunk breaking up over our southern states..
